Coping Mechanism

When faced with a big life change, I find myself focusing on the negative aspects of the place/person/situation I’m leaving behind, to make the transition easier for me.  That is why for the past few weeks, I have had nary a good word to say about poor old Chicago.  In an effort not to piss all over a city that I really do love, I am going to make an effort to find one thing I’ll miss about Chicago every day up until I leave. Today’s thing is grocery stores.

Chicago grocery stores are spacious, clean, and brimming with beautiful produce.  You can prance down the mile-wide aisles without bumping elbows with other shoppers, and when you checkout, you won’t be paying seven dollars for a small jar of peanut butter.  I shudder when I think about the Gristedes (What’s the plural of Gristedes? Gristedeses? Gristedi?) that are in my future.
